Dr Kyra Thompson is an anatomical pathologist based at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology's Cairns laboratory. A graduate of the James Cook University, her medical training was undertaken in regional and remote Queensland including Townsville, Cairns, North West Queensland and Far North Queensland. Her residencies were in Brisbane at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and at the Mater Hospital, including training in emergency medicine.

Dr Thompson trained in anatomical pathology at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Mater Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital, Nambour Hospital and the Townsville Hospital, and the John Tonge Centre to attain her autopsy competency. She was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2017 and joined Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology's Cairns laboratory the same year.

Dr Thompson is a North Queenslander, having been raised on a sheep and cattle station in the Richmond district. She has a long-standing commitment to working in regional areas. Dr Thompson enjoys the challenges of diagnostic pathology and working in a regional laboratory, as well as mentoring and teaching.
